A Texas man who had waived his right to appeal his death sentence was put to death Tuesday evening for killing his 3-month-old son more than 16 years ago, one of five executions scheduled within a week's time in the U.

Baby Alijah's family never got the chance to see him grow up after he died at the hands of his father. Now Travis James Mullis is set to be executed.

Travis Mullis admitted to the killing in a written and videotaped confession. During his trial, defense attorneys asked jurors to consider a lesser offense for Mullis and focused on his history of mental illness that developed during his early childhood.
