We’re beginning to get into the main course of the NFL season. Of all the weeks to this point, the Week 4 Sunday slate is the best we’ve seen. In the early window, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cincinnati Bengals are desperate.

Hint: the list is short. When teams start 0-4, it is historically extremely difficult to recover and make the playoffs.

0-3. Three teams entered Week 4 winless, an ominous harbinger as only six 0-3 teams since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger have recovered to reach postseason. The Cincinnati Bengals got off the mat Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, and the Tennessee Titans will try to do the same Monday night at Miami.

Those teams that opened 0-2 have a slightly better chance to make the postseason than those starting 0-3. Since 1990, 279 teams have started 0-2. Of those, only 32 have made the postseason. That's 11.5%. Of those teams, only 17 won their division (6.1%) and three won Super Bowls (1.1%).

With the first month of the 2024 NFL season nearly in the books, four teams remain unbeaten. While many could have expected the two-time defending champions to be on the list, there are a few surprises.
