World number two Aryna Sabalenka will return to action for the first time since her U.S. Open triumph by playing in the China Open and the Belarusian said on Tuesday her sights were set on reclaiming the top ranking in the final weeks of the season.

Aryna Sabalenka said Tuesday that she wants to cap off a stellar year by returning to the top of the world rankings. Fresh from winning the US Open, Sabalenka can take a large step towards overhauling the Pole at the top of the rankings with victory in Beijing.

Aryna Sabalenka has revealed finishing the calendar year as the World No. 1 is one of her main goals over the remaining weeks of the 2024 season.

Sabalenka won two grand slam titles this year, the Australian Open and the US Open, as well as clinching the top prize in Cincinnati as well. She also reached the final in Madrid and Rome, losing out to world number one Iga Swiatek on both occasions.

The world No 2, who is top seed this week, can take a large step towards overhauling top-ranked Iga Swiatek by winning the Beijing tournament.
