Leica announces screen-less M11-D range finder camera
The Leica M11-D costs over $9,000 and doesn't have a screen – and I still really, really want one
Leica has set the body-only price of the M11-D at $9,395 / £8,100 / AU$15,990. That's expensive even for Leica, and especially for a standard-issue version that lacks a screen – but perhaps it isn't logical to expect a screen-less Leica to costs less.
Leica will be announcing another camera later in September
According to Leica Rumors, the German camera maker will launch a new version of the Leica Q3 on September 26, 2024. The Q3 is a full-frame digital rangefinder camera with a fixed lens and was launched in May 2023 as the successor of the Leica Q2. The current version of the Q3 has a 60MP full-frame sensor paired with a Summilux 28mm F/1.7 lens.
Leica announces the screen-less M11-D range finder camera
Leica has announced the M11-D, a camera in the M11 family that omits a rear display, opting to put an ISO dial in its place. The company says the lack of a display will help users focus on "the elementary aspects of pictorial design such as composition, aperture, shutter speed and ISO."
Leica M11-D Is a Digital Camera Mimicking the Analogue Look
Introduced in 1954, M-system stands for “Messsucher” in German (or rangefinder in English) but has come to essentially denote “Made in Germany.” The M11-D uses a large ISO dial where the digital screen would normally appear.
Leica M11-D Brings Film Capture Experience to Digital
The M11-D doesn't have a rear display so there's never any temptation to chimp at your camera after taking a picture, but the price tag may scare away anyone who's not a real camera nerd.
