Americans can once again order free at-home COVID-19 tests from the federal government starting Thursday ahead of the upcoming respiratory virus season. This is the third year in a row the Biden-Harris administration has allowed Americans to order over-the-counter tests at no charge.

The US government plans to make more at-home Covid-19 tests available for free this month as the country heads into respiratory virus season with high levels of the coronavirus already circulating.

Any U.S. household can order four free COVID-19 tests on the United States Postal Service webpage designated for the test kits. The tests along with shipping to households are free starting Sept. 30, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

The decision will ensure supply of the virus detection tools and support manufacturers, who have dealt with a boom-and-bust market.
